We stock a large range of Aquarium fish from common goldfish to marine corals, stock changes weekly so there is always something new to see! With over 200 tanks of fish you are sure to find something to fill any fish tank!

Cold Water Fish

Goldfish and minnows are the most commonly available fish for unheated tanks in southern Queensland, Quite a few native fish are available for mosquito control in ponds such as pacific blue eyes and Australian rainbows.

Tip:
"Because we live in a subtropical climate most tropical fish such as guppy's and swordtails may require heating in indoor tanks. Because of this we do not recommend keeping such fish in outdoor ponds. A Temperature of 5C - 20C is recommended for most coldwater species."

Tropical Fish

The term "Tropical fish" covers most fresh water fish from a tropical climate a large range of these fish from south America and Asia are available in Australia. Tetras and small livebearers are a good choice for smaller tanks. Tropical fish will require an aquarium heater in southern Queensland. A Temperature of 22C - 28C is recommended.

Fighting Fish

Siamese fighting fish or betas are a small surface breathing fish originating from shallow water in Thailand , because of the low dissolved oxygen in there natural environment they have developed have a labyrinth organ that allows them to take oxygen directly from the atmosphere in addition to the oxygen taken from water via their gills. This means they are very easy to look after and are perfect for small bowls or tanks without pumps but you still need to adjust the pH and use a chlorine neutralizer to keep them happy. A Temperature of 20C - 30C is required.

Discus Fish

Discus originate from south America from black water rives that are soft and acidic because of this they do better in a biotype aquariums set up especially for discus with a few tetras or smaller catfish They require a higher temperature of around 30C-32C and a pH of 6 - 6.8 with very soft (low mineral) water.

Larger Cichlids

The main types of cichlids available in Australia originate from Africa and America. Most American cichlids are larger (around 30 cm) and can become territorial over available space these fish make great display "pets" for tanks 4 foot and over.
African lake cichlids are mostly smaller (up to 20 cm) and can be aggressive in numbers of 10 or less. African cichlids live in a higher pH than most American cichlids and should not be kept together because of this. We recommend tanks no smaller than 150 litres for a group of up to 15 small Africans. A Temperature of 24C - 28C is recommended for most cichlids.

Brackish Water Fish

Brackish water is a term for water that has more salinity than fresh water but not as much as sea water. It may result from mixing of seawater with fresh water, as in estuaries and tidal areas like river mouths. Assorted fish can be found in these areas from barramundi and archer fish to mangrove jacks and monos, while most brackish water fish can live in full fresh water for years it is recommended to recreate the natural requirements for the fish in captivity. A Temperature of 20C - 28C is recommended for most species.

Marine Fish

Marine fish or salt water fish are more sensitive to water conditions than most fresh water fish due to the shear volume of water they originate from, therefore more equipment is required to keep them happy in aquariums. Aquarium chillers and protein skimmers as well as extra pumps and additives are needed compared to other fish. A Temperature of 24C - 25C is recommended.

Seahorses

Seahorses are delicate fish requiring a tank on their own, feeding requirements and being a salt water fish means they are one of the harder types to keep successfully in captivity. Most seahorses will require a chillier and some southern species will need the water kept below 15C. If it seems like to much work you can always drop by the shop and check out our seahorses. Temperature of 10C - 28C is needed depending on the species.
